Vinyl Cape is a reference to the sinister affectations of a cheaply-manufactured halloween costume. This is a tongue-in-cheek nod to “evil” as depicted in Popular Culture. The brainchild of road-tested experimental hip-hop vocalist BRZOWSKI, hyper prolific producer C $ BURNS, and CT’s turntablist-extraordinaire MO NIKLZ, Vinyl Cape seamlessly absorbs and synthesizes the audiovisual trappings of fringe Hip-Hop, Doom Metal, Goth aesthetics, Outlaw attitude, and the seedy underbelly of Psychedelia into a spellbinding mongrel that possesses the genetics of these subcultural tropes, with zero degrees of purism remaining.
This formidable trio made their official live debuts in 2013 at the 2nd Annual PortlandProg-Rap Summit in Portland,ME, and at the Yule-Prog Festival Volume 7 in Brooklyn,NYC that same year.
VC completed two 5-show northeast regional runs with Ex-Def Jux artist Uncommon Nasa and CT staple Sketch Tha Cataclysm (in 2014 and 2015, respectively), as well as packed Halloween-season one-off gigs in 2014 and 2015.
VC released the 7″ vinyl/digital single “Veneficium” on DIY Bandits in 2014, and May of 2015 saw the mixtape “Ritual Abuse : Mixed Cape I” released digitally with a limited CD edition.
The dog days of Summer 2016 will see the release of Vinyl Cape’s seminal full-length offering “The Glitter of Putrescence” on underground stalwart Milled Pavement Records. This exercise in Post-Rap Power-Nihilism is not designed for the wayward casual dabbler in challenging art, as the central thematic element engages the ongoing apocalypse we collectively endure and participate in from our front-row seats to the death-rattles of consumer culture in the final epoch of Late Capitalism.
