Virtue's group olthingSzOlthingSz will be releasing their upcoming album on Milled Pavement this year.
othingSzOlthingSz are experimental lo-fi producers who will not perform live since they believe their music should speak for itself; their image/physical presence cannot dilute the communication.
Born and living in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Virtue met them at a park when he was abroad. They were tossing cake to squirrels, and he was looking for a free bathroom. Through the communication barrier, all Virtue could pick out was the fact that they found inspiration in the same music as him. Influenced by 13&God, James Blake & Black Moon, these girls brought Virtue to their home studio which was “like a grotto of neon” unlike anywhere he’d recorded in North America. After a weekend of bonding, site seeing, and holistic meditation sessions led by the othingSzOlthingSz in their favorite abandoned army barracks, “never made it to o’briens” was completed.
othingSzOlthingSz (Joanna Grewsom, Carly Fiend, Erika Clapt’em, and 3friendtango) quilted the perfect sonic space for the intimacy of Virtue’s looping laments and verbal-big-bang minimalism. Drenched in home made tape delay and cobblestone reverbs, “never made it to o’briens” stands as a tribute to all the times and places that weren’t met, ever.
